Not every garage door installation looks like a typical garage door installation. This one was a little different - and honestly, a lot of fun. The homeowner wanted to open up their kitchen wall to the backyard and create a functional bar-style pass-through for entertaining. So that's exactly what we built.
We installed a full-view glass panel door right over the kitchen counter. The black aluminum frame and full-glass panels give it a clean, modern look that works with just about any style. When it's closed, it still lets natural light pour in and keeps the backyard visible. When it's open, the whole panel lifts up and out of the way - giving you a wide-open pass-through from the kitchen straight to the patio.
The framing work here was just as important as the door itself. Getting the rough opening right, building out the wood surround, and making sure the track and hardware were properly set so the door operates smoothly - that's where the real work is. A door like this needs to seal well when it's down and open cleanly when it's up. Both of those things matter.
The result is a setup that's genuinely useful. Pass food and drinks out without going around. Get airflow through the kitchen without propping open a side door. Use the counter ledge as a serving surface when you've got people over. It changes how the space actually functions day to day.
This kind of installation isn't something most people think to do - but once you see it, it makes a lot of sense. If you've got a wall between your indoor space and your outdoor space and you're wondering how to make that connection feel more natural, a full-view glass door might be exactly what you're looking for.
